Today I had an experience which from what I heard its common here. While traveling with my father (he was driving) a police car was approaching from behind… we were at the time overtaking a truck, so we did the only thing open to us… pull ahead of the truck and move into the adjouing line giving the police a free empty road to drive past. The police still flagged at us as if expecting us to go off the road…. (this was a highway). We were not in the wrong. The police car didn’t stop but raced onward ahead. A car that was following the police (most likely an unmarked police vehicle then attempted to try to run us off the road, we were forced off the road… nether police car stopped but continued racing at high speed… the truck behind us has to make a sudden stop to because it was obvious that the police was attempting to make an accident. Luckly the truck stopped as well as us and allowed the maniac police driving to continue.
From what I heard it is a common practice by the police these days to try to endanger people on the roads with no cause or function, abusing their power. They are ineffective at detering any crime in this nation but seem to serve the function of endangering the law abiding people in the country.
There was an incident a couple months ago when a driver was shot because he gave chase to a police vehicle. Then I thought it was insanity of the driver but now I think it because he was endangered in the same way and reacted to the threat they established.
This is one example of the gross injustice, corruption and insanity currently running rampant within the country of Trinidad and Tobago.
