10 Facts about Real Vampires

We are not goth, although some of us prefer wearing black as the major color in our closet, we can be very eclectic in what colors we are drawn to, white is very nice and I am sure there a lot of female vampires out there that love their pinks.

We do not look like we should be staring in a horror movie. Yes, there many in the gothic community that call themselves vampires and dress and makeup to look like they should be staring in the next Dracula or Ann Rice movie. But the truth is the vast majority of vampires look like many of the average people you see walking down the street. The face of a vampire could be sitting next to you, and you would not even know it. We do not need to vampire-up to publicize what we are and there is varied reasons we choose not to. In addiction, race and ethnicity is not factors to vampirism, note that the vampire is one of the few universal creatures that exist in all societies, likewise you find vampires of every creed and color that mankind exhibits.

We are not immortal. While we could all wish we could be Dracula and live hundreds of years. We are very much like other humans, we are not a separate species. If you cut us, would we not bleed, if you kill us would we not die. Many of us, do not want to die, but many of us know that it will come and when it comes we may welcome it, because it brings with it peace.

Blood. This is a very broad topic. Vampires, indeed crave blood but some such as psi-vampires never feel the hunger for it as they draw energy from those around them. Those of us who have hungers do not necessarily feed. To understand this, remember that blood is a craving that brought about by the hunger and the bloodlust, a symptom of our vampirism, however, how we handle this is on an individual basis, some give in and cannot handle the pain, and therefore feed. Some of us acknowledge this characteristic within us and to varying degrees choose to handle our inner beast in a different way. By the way, those who feed, usually do not need much to satisfy them so in many cases they need enough to barely fill half a shot glass. This is usually provided by donors, those who don’t either need to find donors or find the strength to take the abstinence route. This does not mean there not been cases that can be called a horror, as there are some very weak individuals who cannot handle what they are.

We do not have superpowers. As much as some of us wish we could fly, if we jump off a building we probably become a nice red spot on the pavement below. While accepting the inner beast can make you feel empowered, stronger and generally more than human, we are not. That being said, many of us do have some to varying degrees, mental abilities slightly more than normal humans, including clairvoyance. This is also why some of us gravitate towards less mainstream beliefs. Some remain in established systems that they were raised in since birth but you find that many have fallen out, in favor to something; that more accurately reflects what we have become aware of the nature of the world beyond. In many cases, there is reasons for this feature, but that is a topic perhaps for another time.

Intelligence. While it not universal you will find that the majority of vampires have slightly higher IQs on average than those who are not blessed this way. This is probably why some of us have ended up on the Internet, and are quite good at computer science and other sciences, we also tend to be creative, either poetically, artistically or musically, and you find that we tend to very much love the arts as much as we love science and technology.

Sex. Vampires are not about sex, even though that is what the movies will try to tell you today. While we are not about sex, it does not mean we do not have a very good sexual appetite. And because of the effects of our beast on our psyche, we may get involved in some of the more risque methods of pleasure. So, if you plan on dating one of us, be forewarned, it going to be quite steamy and could push the envelope of what you may be accustomed towards.

Sunlight. We will not burn up in the sunlight. Have no fear that would happen. That being said, we acknowledge that we have no love for it. It’s hot, its bright, its uncomfortable to be in, and while it will not cause any major harm in many of us, the less we have to be exposed to it, the more we are happy. Cool, dimly lit and air conditioning are our favorite places to spend most of our time. This does not mean we do not go outdoors, it just we go outside for more limited periods to get things we must get done, done. Then back to where we feel more comfortable and relaxed.

Crosses. They nothing but trinkets for us, a symbol for an individual’s faith, nothing more. In fact those of us who been involved in vampirism for a long time, wear ankhs; a cross with a circle on top of Egyptian origin; the reason for this is the ankh symbolizes rebirth, the alchemical marriage of the masculine and feminine, birthing the new son. The cycle of life and the key to the underworld. It is a very powerful and meaningful symbol and something we tend to find appealing to our world concept.

Can you become a vampire. Yes and no. No, you cannot be bitten by one and turned, that is foolish, nor can drinking blood from a vampire. In most cases, you have these characteristics born into you from birth, by some fluke of nature, it choose you to follow this path and this legacy. That being said, there can and have been traumatic incidents usually in ones early childhood that may have contributed to their evolution into sanguinarianism (vampirism).
